Many home insurers are discontinuing coverage for houses and apartments in California starting this summer. Insurers are citing soaring costs, the increasing risk of catastrophes like wildfires and outdated regulations as reasons it won’t renew the policies on 30,000 houses and 42,000 apartments in the State of California.

If you have been dropped or pending a cancellation from your insurer here are some tips to help you.

  1. Try and get your insurer to reverse its decision and renew you
  2. Don’t panic, start shopping
  3. Shop smart
  4. The fair plan is a last resort
